Glen & Chrizie

Chrizie was one of the winners of the 2014 W@W (Weddings at Work) Auction and she messaged me about doing an engagement shoot that was fun, happy and lively. She and Glen had mentioned that they had already gone through their “serious” photoshoot and this time, they wanted to have memoirs that reflected a positive and joyous vibe.

On the day of the shoot–before any shutter clicked–they already had their work cut out for them. They had to rent another van because of mechanical problems, rush a food tasting engagement with another supplier and finally endure the surprising traffic in EDSA before getting to the venue. Which left me, the photographer, the impossible task of calming down a flustered bride-to-be. Keeping a good mood in place, I told her that whatever shot she’d like to get, we’ll try to get it.

When Chrizie stepped out of the car, she was already beaming. It was a good day for a shoot, actually. We had a lot of afternoon sunshine so it put everyone in a good mood. You’ll see Glen and Chrizie here as happy campers and you wouldn’t even guess that they had a bad start to their day.

We photographed well into the night just to get a few night shots in and I would have to admit that it was one of the easiest shoots that I’ve ever been in. The bride-to-be was gorgeous and her partner, Glen, was as dashing as any pseudo-aircraft pilot could look in civilian clothes.

We ended the night by trading stories over dinner. Chrizie would tell how she and Glen would be the exact opposite of each other. There are times that like-minded people come together and find an affinity for the same things but in their case, Chrizie raves about their differences and still celebrates her love for Glen. Have you ever talked to a couple who would lovingly joke about each other and tease each other when they’re asked about their significant other? Glen & Chrizie are that kind of match. It’s an amazing sight to behold when two people talk about what annoys them about the other person while at the same time see the sparkle in their eyes.

Maybe when love is in the equation, it messes up the normal; maybe it makes two different people with opposite personalities still manage to laugh and love each other. Perhaps when love is in the picture, the strange or the impossible ceases to exist.

Cheers to you two! And to whoever’s reading, may you find unity in diversity–especially in the way you love and show love to the ones you care about.

A Mini Makeover

What was your most memorable birthday celebration? It was probably a day celebrated with family with lots of food and smothered with smiles laughter. Perhaps it was during your first trip out of the country where new sights dazzled you or maybe it was a party that you threw for your class way back in grade school. We all have our own stories and we remember them fondly. For Bella, however, she decided that a mini makeover with her girlfriends was the best way to celebrate her 9th birthday.

The moment I entered Pink Me Up, I had a sense that it was going to be an intimate celebration. There were only a limited number of seats and the place seemed just right for little people to roam around and spend the afternoon talking and catching up with each other the way close friends do.

One of the more deliciously extravagant details that I naturally gravitated to was the dessert/candy table. From cake pops to macarons to pretzels and candies, the colorful spread done by Box of Sweets was a sweet tooth magnet. I found myself hovering over the goodies way too long but eventually took notice of the other exquisite details made by the other talented collaboraters in this editorial. The paper goods were made by Anna Cristobal while the slippers and robes that Bella and her friends donned were crafted by Bella’s mom herself.

The place also had a chevron balloon backdrop which was made by Candidly Pretty. Bella and her friends posed in front of it and made sure that they had their “photobooth” moment right after they were all made up. The pièce de résistance was a gorgeous chevron-inspired cake lovingly created by Stellar Cakes by Hershey Tagulinao. From the cool, pastel blues and blushing pink hues to the main flower piece in front with gold accents, the cake was incredibly breathtaking. You almost never wanted to eat it. Of course, no makeover birthday would be complete without the host handing out take home treats to their guests. For this, Bella presented each of her girlfriends a friendship bracelet lovingly crafted by Knots O’ Love

It was a simple celebration with her closest friends: a time for pampering, different hairstyles, crazy nail polish combinations, yummy treats and an afternoon to remember.

Here’s the entire set. I hope you become inspired for your kids’ future birthdays. Cheers!

RJ & Louise

I remember the moment I met our bride-to-be quite vividly.

The three-day retreat was drawing to a close and a friend approached me and introduced me to Louise. She was having relationship problems at the time and our common friend mentioned that maybe I could talk to her just to process things since I openly shared to the attendees how I also experienced a similar situation in the past.

I listened to Louise pour her heart out and I knew that things wouldn’t be easy after the retreat. You had to go back to reality and face difficult choices, days filled with anxiety and–should she decide to move on—a heartbreaking farewell to a familiar life.

Eventually, she made the decision to move forward from a heartbreak to completely trusting in a greater plan.

That “greater plan” has taken shape in the form of her love story today. The following photographs are not only a testament to the sovereignty of an Almighty God who holds every good plan for your life but also proof that the wondrous beauty of waiting is worth more than any temporary emotional security a meantime relationship can bring.

It’s amazing how different things look like after surrendering to a better plan. <3

May goodness and love follow you as you trust in better plans. Cheers!
